Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) play a very important role to any healthcare facility. They offer patients with necessity care such as bathing, feeding and dressing.  Each patient is different in temperament and habits and so nursing assistant often must take everything into consideration when dealing with a patient daily.   More often than not, hospitals can't function smoothly without the aid of CNA.

Before you can work as CNA, you must complete certificate program.  These programs are available at some medical facilities or colleges.  You can become CNA in as little as four weeks.  Some can take longer and it can span for twelve weeks.  CNA curriculum is specified by each state.

Most if not all CNA courses teach you the basic requirements on how to take care of those under your care with utmost professionalism and security.  You will most likely work under a supervision of a register nurse or LPN (licensed practical nurse).  Your training program will teach you how to care for your patient both in the physical and psychological needs.  You must pass Certified Nursing Assistant exam before you are allowed to work as CNA.

You can not become CNA by taking classes online. You will need to learn fundamentals from text books as well as hands on training.  You will also learn how to communicate well with patients under your daily care.  Communication is a great key to being an effective CNA.  Communication skills you will learn sometimes come in handy when you are out on the field, and you must communicate patient needs to their family members.

The clinical portion of the training gives you the chance to practice the concepts you learn in the text book.  Some if not most training programs have special medical maniquins that you work with.  You will learn the proper technique in bathing and lifting the patient.  This is very important as you can hurt yourself if you don't know how to lift a patient the right way.  You will learn among other things how to read vital signs from your patients.

Clinical studies can be intimidating to some of CNA students. Bear in mind that they are designed to give you the best opportunity to grasp and understand your role as a Nurse Assistant. Moreover, these clinicals are conducted with a very small group of students. Each group consists of at least two but no more than six. Clinicals often take place in the actual medical facility. Understand that you will not be paid for the work you do during these clinical hours of training.

Make sure that during the clinical studies you do ask questions if you do not fully understand something.

Be very competitive during your clinical study as you can get a job with the same facilty if you show that you are competent and full of potential. The keys are punctuality, attendance, attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude.

Another great advantage from learning the clinical training is that you will know what are expected of you once you work as CNA.  Each facility can have different requirements.  Thus it is very important you ask for a job description with each health care you applied.
